Bob Dylan Adds ‘Tryin’ To Get To Heaven’ To Setlists For 1st Time Since 2019

Bob Dylan brought his 2026 Summer Tour to the Sacramento area on Friday. The concert at The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, California saw the singer-songwriter break out “Tryin’ To Get To Heaven.”

The song appears on Bob Dylan’s 1997 Daniel Lanois-produced album Time Out Of Mind. Released 35 years into his career, Time Out Of Mind is pointed to as one Dylan’s best latter-day albums.

It was also something of a comeback record as it marked the singer-songwriter’s first new music since 1990’s Under The Red Sky. Time Out Of Mind won the coveted Album Of The Year Grammy in 1998.

Near Sacramento on Friday, Dylan brought back “Tryin’ To Get To Heaven” for the first time since 2019, offering the tune in the fourth song slot between the classic “All Along The Watchtower” and “False Prophet” from his most recent studio album, Rough And Rowdy Ways.

Dylan kept the song in that spot for his subsequent two-night stand at Berkeley, California’s historic Greek Theatre. The studio rendition of “Tryin’ To Get To Heaven” is notable as the only song on Time Out Of Mind that contains harmonica and Bob broke out his harp for the recent performance.
