John Mayer tapped Don Was to guest host this weekend’s episode of “Grateful Dead Listening Party” on SiriusXM. The Dead & Company guitarist and Wolf Bros bassist were among Bob Weir's most frequent collaborators over the last decade of his life.

Don Was was a staple of every Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros iteration from the project’s formation in 2018 through their final gig on June 21, 2025. The Detroit native is a renowned producer, the president of Blue Note Records and co-founder of Was (Not Was). Don Was currently leads his Pan-Detroit Ensemble.

The Was-led installment of “Grateful Dead Listening Party” premieres on Life With John Mayer (Channel 4) at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT this Sunday, June 21. Replays air on the Grateful Dead Channel (Channel 23) on Monday, June 22 at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT and Wednesday, June 24 at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT. The episode will be available on demand on the SiriusXM app.

John Mayer launched the “Grateful Dead Listening Party” in March as a way to grieve Weir’s death. Mayer fills every episode with his favorite Grateful Dead and Dead & Company recordings. He also talks about each one.

The most recent “Grateful Dead Listening Party” was helmed by John Mayer following guest host appearances from Elijah Funk and Andy Cohen. Mayer shared an anecdote during the show about an encounter he had with Was after he played his first notes with Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart in Dead & Co.

“Does this mean I’m in the Dead?,” John asked. “I think it means you’re in the Dead,” Was responded.
